Meet Your Teacher...
My name is Royce Russell and I am a mathematics teacher. This is my eighth year as a secondary Mathematics teacher. Although teaching has always been my passion, it is my second career. My first career was in the world of business. I earned my first degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, and then completed my Masters at Belmont University here in Middle Tennessee. I was trained and certified in Tennessee to teach High School Mathematics (Grades 7-12). I regularly attend workshops and take courses during the year and through the summer to keep sharp and stay on top of the ever-changing world of Teaching, Mathematics and Technology.
While in school, my favorite teachers always had prior careers before deciding to teach. As a result, they were able to vividly connect what we were learning to their life experience. While I was not a child genius, and certainly did not earn straight "A's", I loved the order in mathematics in a world full of chaos.
Before joining the world of education, I used to travel around the country to conventions, teaching new games to young people and corporate buyers. Now that I have changed jobs, I do not travel much anymore but I still love to play games with my daughters and friends. I have found the problem solving skills in games are very similar to what I learned from my teachers throughout my schooling. Math and games use the same type of logic and problem solving skills! I look forward every day to working and sometimes playing to teach logic and problems solving skills that are more and more important in our very technical modern world.
